Grandma's Butter Rolls
Ingredients
2 cup Flour

1 tsp Salt

1/2 cup Shortening

5 tbsp Water

1/2 Stick butter

1/2 cup Sugar

1/2 tsp Nutmeg

1 cup Sugar

2 cup Milk

1 tsp Vanilla

Preparation
Mix flour, salt and shortening. Add water. Make a smooth ball. Divide this into 4 balls. Roll each out on a floured board to thickness of pie crust. Sprinkle with pieces of the butter--Grandma used fresh cow butter--and the sugar and nutmeg mix together. Roll up and seal ends. Make 4 rolls like this and place in an iron skillet.

Pierce through each roll with fork in 3 or 4 places. Bake at 400 degrees until brown and crisp.

Meanwhile, mix 1 cup sugar, milk and vanilla. Pour this over browned rolls and return to the oven for 5 minutes.
